Overall the roof looks good...after they came back to fix a few concerns we had. I feel like they should have been more professional when my husband addressed the issues we had with the craftsmanship instead of arguing about how it can't be that bad etc. Then, when they came by to see for themselves what the problems were, they continued to downplay it as if crooked shingles and shingles barely touching was acceptable with this being an older home. They were asked to replace all the old drip edge and they did not. They cut the drip edge too short and just left a big gap there. Then "fixed" it by adding another piece with a visible screw to hold it in place. My biggest issue is when we called to set up a time they would come fix the problems and they gave us a time of 7am because they knew my husband had to work in the afternoon. Well guess what? Nobody showed up...not even so much as a courtesy call as we sit here waiting. My husband calls at 9am and the woman tells him "you know how it is...hard to find reliable workers"!!!! And she couldn't bother to call and tell us what was going on? Way to make your own business look bad! The workmanship was just not there as we expected it to be. And the clean up was awful. I have a 7 year old child here and they have some nerve leaving chunks of shingles with nails sticking out of them...there were over 3 dozen nails left in my yard and 3 large pieces of plastic tangled in my tree! Maybe if they didn't take several breaks that lasted 2 hrs each time, they wouldn't have been in such a rush to get it done and we wouldn't have had to get them back to fix everything. Would NOT recommend unless you are prepared to be on the roof supervising and you have your own magnet to clean up all the nails.
In 2010, I had Hachey's Roofing re-shingle my 2-storey home with the GAF Canadian Driftwood fiberglass/asphalt shingles. I don't usually write reviews but feel it necessary this time as I've been extremely impressed by their work and professionalism. Claude Hachey, the owner, is friendly and reassuring. He provides a fair competitive price and his customer service is excellent. For example, when our roof was completed, Claude came back to ensure everything was to my satisfaction and to install (free of charge) a couple of down spouts from the second storey roof to the first storey to redirect the rainwater into the eves-trough instead of it flowing onto the shingles and causing damage. Our house builder didn't think of that. Today, I called Claude Hachey because I had noticed over the past few months a few shingles were starting to lift. Claude came to see the problem within 2 hours of me calling him.. WOW! And better still, he explained the lifting was probably happening because a nail holding the new shingle was hammered into an pre-existing hole. Not much for the new nail to bite into so over time the nail backed its way out allowing the shingle to lift. He went up on the roof and fixed the problem and then inspected the rest of the roof to make sure everything was OK. Fantastic service. I would not have any problem hiring Hachey Roofing again. These guys did the roof on my 4-plex in Welland two weeks ago. The job site was impeccable when they left, the products they used are superb, their service was timely AND their quote was $4000 less than the next guy. Absolutely everything you would want in a roofing company. Working around tenants can be a pain but these guys did it without a hitch. Fantastic guys to work with, I will use them for every roof going forward!
