Very kind staff, along with AMAZING food! Everything being home made and cooked to order really makes you appreciate the food just that much more. Matteo (Head chef) clearly has a passion for food, and by not choosing Matteo's, your dinner choice will not compare. Recommend 100% and will be back for sure!
First time to Welland, and based on recommendation and reviews, we went to Matteo's for dinner. Amazing service , great tasting Italian food! Appetizers, main dishes, and desserts all creatively presented and tasty! Owner Matteo went above and beyond in service despite a busy evening. Definitely recommend and come back when in Welland again!
I enjoyed my lunch when I came here. The food was amazing, but the portion sizes are small. All prices were very reasonable considering the atmosphere. I would likely return to this restaurant if business takes me in this direction again. Service at the time I dined here was very inattentive. I had to ask multiple staff for service throughout my meal which made me feel like my needs and my time was not important. If the food was not as good as it was when I ate here, my rating would be much lower
The second you step in the door you're greeted by wonderful antipasto and pizza aromas coupled with the warmth of the wood burning stove, that even in the warmth of summer is somehow comforting. Its cozy as though it were your Nonna's house, we were greeted by Matteo himself, the man in front of the wood burning oven, cooking himself all the pizza and inspecting every dish. The passion involved in the food is as prevalent as quality, through food you are subtly reminded to slow down and enjoy the little things. The little things you can tell are the highlight of this diamond in the rough.
At the very beginning the person that met us at the door was rude and uninviting. We waited and it felt like we were not wanted there. The who.an who met us was mad as we asked for a menu to see what was on it as I had food issues. She went and complained to the owner about us. They offered us a table which they called the community table in hopes that we would decline. We own an establishment that serves food and the public and never would we treat someone the way we were treated.We left not to darken their doorstep again. Very univiting and if the person who met us at the door is an owner then shame on you!
